This year, police deadly force is the hot-button issue in the California State Capitol. The Legislature knows that too many families have been shattered by police violence in California. We know that police should never take a human life when they have alternatives. While this seems like a common-sense standard, it isn’t the current practice in California.

There are two competing bills to change the law on when police officers are allowed to use deadly force.

Assemblymember Weber (D-San Diego) has introduced the California Act to Save Lives (AB 392) that will prevent police from killing people when they have alternatives.

Meanwhile, the California police lobby (PORAC and CA Police Chiefs) have introduced a bill to undermine real reform. We have an opportunity to overcome the cops’ bill and advance The CA Act to Save Lives (AB 392) now until Tuesday, April 23– but we need your help!
